Past and present 'Next Gen' Committee members will discuss current issues facing young people seeking degrees and careers in the humanities and ways we as a collective can better serve Next Gen as a whole.

The Arkansas Humanities Council established the Next Generation Advisory Committee (Next Gen) in 2018 to welcome feedback, suggestion, and guidance to the Council, grant initiatives, and programs from the 18-35 Next Generation of humanities leaders across the state. With the new class of Next Gen in 2022, members were asked how they thought the Council could better serve young people in Arkansas. Most of their responses were to do more professional development and career fairs to let students know what opportunities were available to them. Others sought to uplift our working creatives, and humanists in the non-traditional, non-academic spheres. Others wished to provide more resources to teachers and educators. From this, the Next Gen(eration) Humanities Conference was born. A panel composed of past and present 'Next Gen' Committee members will discuss current issues facing young people seeking degrees and careers in the humanities and ways we as a collective can better serve Next Gen as a whole. The panel discussion seeks to contextualize this conference as a unique opportunity to help Next Gen 'bridge the gap from education to career.'

Panelists:

  • Asya Webster, Arkansas Humanities Council
  • Kimberly Hosey, Shiloh Museum of Ozark History
  • Dr. Heather McNamee, Arkansas State University
  • Danielle Afsordeh, Central Arkansas Library System
