Sounds in the Stacks is a series of community concerts at CALS branches that highlights local musicians with different musical backgrounds as they showcase their talent and skill in an intimate one-hour concert.
Sounds in the Stacks brings music to branch libraries to engage the community with local musicians and their talents. For ten months out of the year, there is one concert per month at a different library within CALS. Each of these concerts takes place in the midst of the books (stacks), in the open for all to enjoy. The intimate setting of the library affords the opportunity for the artist to have conversations with the patrons in attendance. They will share their feelings about pieces of music that they have chosen to play as well as their own original compositions. It’s this interaction that sets the series apart; think of it as a VH1 Storytellers but better.
Nestled in the heart of the beautiful city of Maumelle, the library is surrounded by Lake Valencia and numerous popular walking trails. The newly renovated building boasts an extensive collection of DVDs, audiobooks, fiction, non-fiction, and bestsellers for all ages. Enjoy the natural setting of our library by checking out our fishing poles for a relaxing day of fishing with the family, or checking out our telescope to view the wonders of the night sky. Book clubs for adults, cooking classes for kids, and storytime for babies are just a few of the many programs offered every month that the entire family can enjoy. For individuals and small groups we provide several study rooms, and if you have a larger group give us a call or stop by to discuss having your next get-together in our meeting room.
