SPEAKERS: Kimball Erdman, Angie Payne, and Joshua Youngblood

Funded in part by a grant from the U.S. Department of the Interior, the National Park Service, and the Japanese American Confinement Sites (JACS) grant program, Rising Above offers students and researchers of all ages and backgrounds the opportunity to explore the complex history of the Rohwer and Jerome incarceration camps through interactive timelines and maps; archives of more than 3,000 digitized documents, images, and documents; and a 3-D reconstruction of a residential block inhabited between 1942 and 1945.

Kimball Erdman is a Professor of Landscape Architecture in the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design at the University of Arkansas. He specializes in the documentation and preservation of cultural landscapes and the history of landscape architecture.

Angie Payne is a technical specialist at the Center for Advanced Spatial Technologies at the University of Arkansas, focusing on projects in history and archaeology. She enjoys exploring how technology can help enliven stories of the past and reach new audiences.

Joshua Youngblood is the Head of Instruction and Outreach and Rare Books Librarian for the University of Arkansas Libraries Special Collections. His historical research focuses on radicalism and resistance in the twentieth-century American South. He also studies the use of digitized and physical artifacts for primary source learning in and beyond the classroom.
