Presidential history in this dual session with Samuel G. Freedman (Into the Bright Sunshine: Young Hubert Humphrey and the Fight for Civil Rights) & Randall Woods (John Quincy Adams: A Man for the Whole People).
Samuel G. Freedman is an award-winning author, journalist, and educator who is the author of ten acclaimed books. Freedman is a professor at Columbia Journalism School and a former columnist for the New York Times. Into the Bright Sunshine: Young Hubert Humphrey and the Fight for Civil Rights illuminates the early portion of Humphrey's career and recounts the vital civil rights efforts of the 1940s, many of them inspired by the sacrifices of Black GIs who fought for what they called “Double V”—victory over fascism abroad and then Jim Crow at home.
Randall Woods is Distinguished Professor of History at the University of Arkansas. He teaches American political and diplomatic history, and is the author of Fulbright: A Biography, LBJ: Architect of American Ambition, and Shadow Warrior: William E. Colby and the CIA.
