The mission of Banned Books Week (September 22-28, 2024) is to highlight “the value of free and open access to information.” The Central Arkansas Library System’s 2024 featured Banned Books Week speaker is Toluse Olorunnipa, who is White House Bureau Chief of the Washington Post.

Winner of the 2023 Pulitzer Prize in General Nonfiction for his book His Name Is George Floyd: One Man’s Life and the Struggle for Racial Justice, co-written with Robert Samuels, Olorunnipa’s presentation will include reflection on his experience of censorship and be followed by a book signing.

This program is part of the CALS Speaker Series and honors Fred K. Darragh. Presented in partnership with Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site.

About the branch

The Ron Robinson Theater is a 315-seat multi-purpose event venue. Part of the Central Arkansas Library System’s (CALS) Main Library campus, it is designed to provide programs for all ages including films, music performances, plays, readings, lectures, speakers, and children’s activities. The theater is equipped with a state-of-the-art DCI-compliant Barco digital cinema projection system and 32′ wide retractable screen; and, a versatile sound system capable of Dolby 5.1 surround audio for movies, with a CL3 digital mixing console with ample inputs for traditional music concerts.
