CALS Speaker Series presents Amanda Jones, the best-selling author of That Librarian: The Fight Against Book Banning in America, on Thursday, April 17, in the Ron Robinson Theater.
“Amanda Jones started getting death threats, all for standing up for our right to read ... but she's not stopped fighting against book bans, or stopped advocating for access to diverse stories.” - Oprah Winfrey, at the 2023 National Book Awards
Amanda Jones is the nationally bestselling author of That Librarian: The Fight Against Book Banning in America. Part memoir, part manifesto, it is the inspiring story of a Louisiana librarian advocating for free speech on the front lines of our vicious culture wars.
Doors open at 5PM, and the program will begin at 6PM. Advanced registration is suggested to ensure a seat in the theater. A book signing with Amanda Jones will follow the one-hour program.
This program will be moderated by Rep. Tippi McCullough, who has been reelected to serve her 4th term as an Arkansas State Representative for District 74 in Little Rock. She served two terms as the first openly LGBTQ+ Arkansas House Minority Leader and this term will serve in the 95th General Assembly on the Judiciary Committee; City County Local Committee; Legislative Joint Budget; Public Retirement and Social Security Programs, and as an Arkansas Legislative Council alternate. She is an advocate for education, mental health, the creative economy, hunger, domestic violence issues, the LGBTQ+ community, and women’s issues.
Onsite book sales will be managed by WordsWorth Books.
This program honors Rabbi Ira E. Sanders and his commitment to intellectual freedom.
