America’s war on books is more than a war on words. The Librarians, a new feature documentary from Academy Award® nominee and Peabody Award winner Kim A. Snyder and Executive Producer Sarah Jessica Parker.

Librarians across the U.S. examine how book review policies are shaping their communities.

When Texas lawmakers seek to review a list of books, librarians find themselves on the frontlines of a national battle. Across the U.S., librarians face the impact of uniting against library collection standards that include restrictions on race-related and LGBTQIA+ content. Drawing on historical context, The Librarians explores the broader implications for education and public life.

A panel discussion and audience Q&A will follow the film screening. The panel includes Adrianne Karasek (Authors Against Book Bans), LaToya Morgan (Arkansas Association of Instructional Media), and John Williams (Legal Director for ACLU of Arkansas). The panel will be moderated by Adam Webb, Executive Director of the Garland County Library and President of the Arkansas Library Association.

Doors open at 5:30pm, and the film will begin at 6:00pm. The screening is free and open to the public.

Free parking in CALS parking lot and deck is available for this event. Please park in the Surface Lot (entrance on 2nd Street between Cumberland and River Market Ave) or the CALS Parking Deck (entrance on Rock Street via President Clinton Ave).
