Sand County Almanac Reading

Join us as we celebrate the environmental movement with community members reading from Aldo Leopold's A Sand County Almanac and other environmental writings. After listening to the pieces, we will create nature journals with Anne.

Free copies of A Sand County Almanac are available at the CALS Maumelle Library, starting Thursday, February 26. While supplies last.

In 1949, Leopold published A Sand County Almanac that blends nature writing, science, and philosophy to advocate for a respectful relationship between humans and the natural world. CALS, in partnership with the Arkansas Audubon Society, will also screen the film Green Fire: Aldo Leopold and a Land Ethic of Our Time on Tuesday, March 3 from 7pm to 9pm at the CALS Ron Robinson Theater (100 River Market Ave in Downtown Little Rock). For more information about the film screening, visit the event page at CALS.org.

For more information about ARKANSAS READS LEOPOLD, check out the Arkansas Audubon Society website.

About the branch

Nestled in the heart of the beautiful city of Maumelle, the library is surrounded by Lake Valencia and numerous popular walking trails. The newly renovated building boasts an extensive collection of DVDs, audiobooks, fiction, non-fiction, and bestsellers for all ages. Enjoy the natural setting of our library by checking out our fishing poles for a relaxing day of fishing with the family, or checking out our telescope to view the wonders of the night sky. Book clubs for adults, cooking classes for kids, and storytime for babies are just a few of the many programs offered every month that the entire family can enjoy. For individuals and small groups we provide several study rooms, and if you have a larger group give us a call or stop by to discuss having your next get-together in our meeting room.
