- Celebrate the scientific contributions of Black Ophthalmologist Dr. Patricia Bath.
- We will explore optics with lasers to see how lenses bend light, allowing us to see and focus.
- We will also dissect a cow eye to examine its biological structures.
- Dr. Bath pioneered an entire new field called Community Ophthalmology and founded the American institute for the Prevention of Blindness in 1976 after publishing research showing higher rates of preventable blindness among her Black patients in Harlem.
- In 1986 Dr. Bath invented the Laserphaco probe, which made modern laser eye surgery possible.
