Learn about the life and work of Aldo Leopold and the importance of land ethic.
This first full-length biographical documentary of Aldo Leopold's life and work also emphasizes the importance of the land ethic for our own time. Leopold first began to formulate his land ethic after he killed a female wolf in the Apache National Forest in 1909. He wrote of this experience and more in his essay "Thinking Like a Mountain." The documentary explores how his philosophy has inspired current conservation work across the United States.
In 1949, Leopold published A Sand County Almanac that blends nature writing, science, and philosophy to advocate for a respectful relationship between humans and the natural world. CALS, in partnership with the Arkansas Audubon Society, will host a reading of A Sand County Almanac at CALS Maumelle Library on Saturday, March 6 from 10am to 12pm.
